Kayamandi: Songezo Lupondo
Title
Kayamandi: Songezo Lupondo
Subject
House museums
Description
Songezo Lupondo’s home formed part of the Kayamandi Creative District (KCD) project, where local homes were transformed into art galleries or house museums where local artists’ work was displayed.
Songezo is a gifted young musician based in Kayamandi. He grew up in a home that was used as a church. Both his grandparents were the bishops of the church, and welcomed visitors into their home to be healed and to worship. His gift for entertaining, he believes, started here. He has learned to play various instruments and continues to play in the church band as well as the Kuyasa band.
He hopes to train further in tourism and hospitality, with KCD coordinator, Vuyo, as mentor. Although the project is now dormant, Songezo’s home remains part of the KCD network should new exhibitions be initiated in the future.
