Afrikaaps: An investigation of the Cape coloured Afrikaans dialect as explored by creatives within contemporary South Africa

This study investigated the potential historical and sociolinguistic roles of the Cape vernacular Afrikaans, or Kaaps, within post-colonial contemporary South Africa. It explored notions surrounding the agency of the marginalised Cape vernacular Afrikaans as a dialect largely disconnected from its history and its reception as unofficial and of lower status than the official Afrikaans, and was largely influenced with my own preoccupation as a speaker of Kaaps.
