Interview with Valeria Geselev (former curator at GUS)

Title

Interview with Valeria Geselev (former curator at GUS)

Subject

Art as social cohesion

Description

Second interview of the RADA database. In this interview we discuss the transformative power of art within a South African university gallery. Valeria Geselev was the curator of Gallery University Stellenbosch. Stellenbosch is a town in Cape Town, and the town was a centrepiece of the Dutch colonisation and apartheid that followed. Today Stellenbosch is still a divided town: geographically, economically and racially. In this context Valeria discusses how her practice promotes art as a tool for social cohesion and we talk a bit about decolonisation and confronting history.
